As we head into 2025, may I suggest an alternative to goal setting? As a coach and professor, I am a strong advocate of leveraging chance events to create new opportunities and become future ready.

Let me explain! I’m a big fan of John Krumboltz (2008) who suggested that unplanned events can be beneficial to one’s career. I’ve heard countless stories from people who shared that their careers began with a chance encounter, or conversation. So how do we leverage chance to create opportunities? It begins with your mindset:

1) Curiosity: Begin 2025 with a spirit of curiosity. What are you curious about?
2) Persistence: Each year brings it’s ups and downs. What knowledge, skills or attitudes can you tap into to persist when you face a setback?
3) Flexibility: Stretching is good for the body and for the mind. What areas in your career are you willing to be flexible?
4) Optimism: This is a choice. Can you find optimism in difficult situations?
5) Risk-Taking: Embracing uncertainty for opportunities. Maybe risk taking isn’t as daunting as it seems?

Through this mindset, you can embrace chance events and turn them into opportunities, ensuring you are future ready. Need a supportive coach in 2025, reach out, I’d love to share ideas with you.
